Welcome To ESN
There is something really special about the events industry .......
Nearly twenty years ago, when I made the career move from publishing into exhibitions, I little knew that I had found my niche and that a deep and lifelong love affair with the industry had begun. Learning the craft was not easy.
The culture is complex and many mistakes needed to be made and learnt from. However unlike any other business pursuit, working in the events industry as I am sure my peers would agree is incredibly rewarding and brings a huge sense of satisfaction – particularly when you get it right!
I have enjoyed the benefit of working on a multitude of different types of event and in different roles. As an exhibition manager at MGB exhibitions (now CMP) and the day to day task or running shows to hosting massive trade and consumer events at Earls Court Olympia – with the odd conference, banquet, fun fair and Rock concert thrown in for variety as business development manager.
It was however whilst I am serving as head of sales and marketing at Alexandra Palace that the concept behind what is now ESN first came into being. Working with a great number of existing and potential organisers, or simply people who had been tasked to “go and organise the staff party – for 2,500 people” there was so often a gulf between what was required and the means to deliver.
These shortfalls never seemed to be in the same area. One organiser would have excellent strategy and sales resources, but not a clue as to how to organise on the ground, the next would have superb organising skills but had not researched the market they planned to serve, throwing their money away on expensive venue rental and marketing for an event that was doomed from the start.
One of the joys of working at venues was that I got to know and appreciate the skills of a vast array of suppliers and contractors to the industry, both as individuals and companies.
ESN is an amalgam these contacts and represents the experience and expertise of some of the best and most creative minds in the industry. Clients are not required to hand their project over, but can cherry pick what they need. Be it professional event management, sales and marketing support, strategic and financial planning, test marketing, venue finding, supply of shell scheme, stand design, man power services, electrics, furniture hire or just advise as to how to get started, ESN can provide the right person or company for the job.
